This year, Charity Day across the Utilitywise group was an opportunity for our colleagues to engage with their local community and raise awareness of the benefit of reducing, reusing, and recycling, at every opportunity. Here in Prague, our colleagues have embraced a series of initiatives within this theme to help reduce the impact we make within our local area in Karlin.

Firstly, we’ve started collecting all the plastic bottles we use across the building to highlight just how many we go through in a week. We also made the decision to phase out the use of small black bins we have littered around the office. Instead, they are being replaced with more recycling stations so that 100% of the waste we produce is separated and recycled. Colleagues have also bought in examples of how they’re recycling everyday objects – checkout the pics below of the cool Christmas decorations made from coffee pods.

One of the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) benefits that we provide for colleagues is for them to take time outside of work hours  to work on a community project instead. For Charity Day, colleagues have been heading down to our local stretch of the Vltava to help clean and beautify the space by reducing the amount of rubbish. Our Wednesday Night Running Group collected eight bags of rubbish in one evening alone and they’re going to continue taking garbage bigs with them on their future runs! The tree-lined banks are a popular space for families and the result has made a visible improvement.

Our colleagues are very generous on a regular basis and for several years we have have supported the Klokanek Children’s Home with cash and food vouchers. This Charity Day we set up a new Charity Corner to help drive donations of second-hand clothes and  toys for the children. The kids of Klokanek also took time to help decorate the space with their own artwork.
